Dromo importer matching a customer's spreadsheet columns to schema fields with AI suggestions

What Dromo does

Dromo turns the spreadsheets your customers send into clean, validated data your application can use. A user uploads a CSV, TSV, TXT, XLS, XLSX, or XML file. Dromo finds the header row, matches their columns to your fields, flags every value that breaks your rules, and helps them fix it. Your application receives JSON that matches your schema exactly.

There are two ways to run it. The embedded importer is a component inside your product, for when a person is uploading the file and can fix their own data. The Headless API runs the same schema with nobody present, for scheduled partner files, migrations, and anything your backend receives. A file that needs a person stops with a review link instead of failing.

What it replaces

Without an importer, customer data reaches your product one of three ways. A CSV template that customers fill in wrong. An onboarding specialist who cleans files by hand. Or a homegrown importer that works until the first customer exports from a different system. Each one turns data entry mistakes into support tickets and delays the moment a new customer sees value.

Dromo moves that work to the person who understands the data, at the moment they upload it. AI suggests column matches a string comparison would miss, like "E-mail Addr" for email. Bulk fixes convert whole columns of dates or free-text values at once, with every change shown and reversible. Errors appear next to the cell that caused them, with your own error messages. Nothing reaches your database until it passes.

The results show up in the numbers customers report:

Your customers' data stays private

Most importers send every row to the vendor's servers. Dromo does not have to. In Private Mode, the default, the file is parsed and validated in the user's browser and the results go straight to your application. Dromo never receives the data.

AI column matching and mapping memory need to see column names, so they run in a headers-only mode that shares the column mapping and the distinct values of select fields, never the rows. On the Enterprise plan, Bring Your Own Storage writes import data directly to your own AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, or Azure Blob Storage bucket, and the full stack can be self-hosted in your cloud for data residency.

Dromo has completed a SOC 2 Type II audit, signs Business Associate Agreements for HIPAA, and offers Standard Contractual Clauses for GDPR. See how Private Mode works and the Trust Center.

Built to fit your product

Dromo is white label on every plan. There is no Dromo logo and no "powered by" line, and colors, fonts, help text, and error messages are yours to set. Setup in React, Angular, or plain JavaScript is about ten lines of code. Validation rules can live in code, or in Schema Studio, where a product manager changes a field or a rule without a deploy. Column hooks call your own API during the import, so a value can be checked against records you already have.

Pricing you can see before you talk to anyone

Dromo Professional is $599 per month with 250 imports included and $3 per import after that. Enterprise adds the Headless API and SFTP, Bring Your Own Storage, self-hosting, localization into more than 30 languages, and custom data retention, at custom pricing. The sandbox account is free, needs no credit card, and imports in development mode are not charged. See pricing.

What Dromo does not do

Dromo is built for tabular data: rows and columns, from a file or from JSON your backend sends. Spreadsheets and delimited text work out of the box. PDFs, images, and fixed-width files are supported through a custom file parser you write, which turns the file into rows that Dromo then maps and validates like any other import. Dromo does not read free-form documents such as contracts or letters.

Dromo is also not a workflow automation tool. Zapier and similar tools move records between apps that already have clean data. Dromo is the step before that: it gets messy customer files into a shape your app accepts. The two work together, and Dromo can trigger a Zap when an import completes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Dromo is a data importer for software products. It takes CSV, TSV, TXT, XLS, XLSX, and XML files from your customers, matches their columns to your schema, validates every value, and helps them fix errors, so your application receives clean JSON. It runs embedded in your product or headless through an API.
  • It stops them before they reach your database. Every value is checked against your field types, validators, and hooks as the file loads, errors appear next to the cell that caused them, and invalid rows cannot be submitted unless you allow it. UpKeep raised its CSV import success rate to 99 percent with Dromo.
  • Customers import their own data on day one instead of sending files to your team to clean. AI column matching, bulk fixes, and inline errors let them finish without help, and mapping memory matches the next file of the same type automatically.
  • Dromo is built for tabular data. Spreadsheets and delimited text work out of the box, and PDFs, images, and fixed-width files are supported through a custom file parser that turns the file into rows. Dromo does not read free-form documents such as contracts or letters.
  • They do different jobs. Zapier moves records between apps that already have clean data. Dromo gets messy customer files into a shape your app accepts, and it can trigger a Zap when an import completes, so the two work together.
  • Dromo Professional is $599 per month with 250 imports included and $3 per import after that. Enterprise pricing is custom. The sandbox account is free, needs no credit card, and imports in development mode are not charged.
